Two guys. Eight instruments. A basement studio. One passion.
With no outside help we wrote, recorded, and produced an album. No recording company, no studio musicians, no professional studio. The only person over 18 who heard the album before its release was my dad, Ed, who helped with two song transitions (not to mention teaching me guitar, and how to run a studio.)
This is not a professional album. It is anti-professional. We''ve heard the crap that professionals sell, and we don''t like it. We don''t think professionals listen to their own albums. We do. And we intend to enjoy it!
That said, this album requires some explanations, from listener to listener. We are the first listeners, so we are explaining it to you.
First of all, this is an album, not a CD. The songs flow together. If you skip songs, we think you are missing out.
This album is narrative. It has a beginning, middle and end. Hence, it is separated into Acts.
It begins, as the title suggests, in a small town in Eastern Oregon, namely North Powder. The narrator, Shane, leads you threw the perils of his early life.
In the middle, you will notice a change. A different singer, a different instrument, a different quality. Shane is in a different place, the city. On this song, Shane listens with you, as a stranger listens to learn.
New problems arise, new feelings develop, things change. The narrator is the same person. He is older and, perhaps, wiser. In the end, you hear the first song we finished making the album, Sweet November. Recorded at the middle of the night, it signifies a new beginning, a new chapter in his life.
