Details:
Eve is the seventh of eight children. Both her parents were gospel singers who met while singing on the same church program. The entire family later sang at area churches while her mother played piano. Some of Eve‘s earliest memories are singing special parts while "the big kids" sang behind her. At age 8 her mother, Christina, lost her long battle with cancer and the following year her eldest sister died. Eve credits her survival to the fact that even at this tender age, she knew how to pray.
Music was Eve’s way of escape. She spent hours mimicking the singers she saw on TV and dreamed of one day meeting her idol, Aretha Franklin. She also dreamed of the day she could leave her small town and its population of 2,000. After graduation, Eve moved to Louisville, Kentucky and one day on a whim, mailed a few songs she''d written to various artists. Clarence Carter of "Patches" fame was one of the first to reply. A week later, she flew to Atlanta to meet Carter and the staff at his record label, "Future Stars." "Clarence was very kind and one of the first people to affirm me as a writer," she said. "He was also the first person to hire me as a background vocalist." Three weeks after that fateful meeting, Eve quit her job and with $75.00 to her name and a dream, relocated to Atlanta.
She loves singing a wide range of musical styles including R&B, reggae, rock, jazz, blues and gospel. If there was one word that described Eve in those days, it was "Restless" and as soon as she completed one project, like a woman possessed, felt driven to begin another. Eve has worked with Isaac Hayes and The Black Songwriter’s Association; was a featured vocalist in the film "Soul Music in Georgia", "Weekend Magazine", "Meetin’ Place," New York’s famed “Apollo Theater," a guest on cable television’s "State of the Arts" and two specials for ABC. She sang on the theme song for PBS‘ "Prime Time" and worked with Reginald Rutherford‘s "Eddie Robinson Awards". She’s been featured in commercials and written several jingles; was a finalist in Georgia Music Industry Association‘s Songwriting Contest for her composition, "Whatever Lord" and considers legendary Trombonist Fred Wesley, her big brother.
As an actress, she performed in Jomandi Theater''s "Black Nativity", Nexus Theater''s "Gospel Show", The Alliance Theater’s "Don’t Bother Me, I Can’t Cope" with Director Walter Dallas, which tied for “Best Play of the Year;” "The Night of January 16th with Director Bishop William L. Sheals, the national tour of "MOMS" with Clarice Taylor and late Director Paul Berkowsky; "The Greatest" with Muhammad Ali and Genesis Christian Production‘s musical, "I Know the Man" of which she later penned the title song. She is a graduate of Walter Dallas’ Proposition Theater and former member of the Atlanta Philharmonic Chorale under the direction of the late John Griggs.
As a member of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Lithonia, Georgia where Bishop Eddie Long serves as senior pastor, she participated in the Chorale/NuPraz and Total Praise choirs including the cd, "In Spirit and In Truth" and Dottie Peoples'' recordings "God Can God Will and "Just Churchin''", and background for numerous artists, including Pastors Donnie McClurkin, Hezekiah Walker, Marvin Sapp, Byron Cage, William Murphy, Kirk Franklin, Karen Clark Sheard, Patti LaBelle, Michael Bolton and Tyrees Gibson.
In 1998, Eve formed her production company, Eve Unltd. International. Her future aspirations include presenting her musicals, "Church Girls Gone Wild!" and "You Made Me Believe Again"; writing for other recording artists and completing her novel, “Christina’s Girl.”
If there is one word that describes Eve these days, its "Peace." A peace she found only after surrendering Her Will and asking God to reveal His Will for her life.
