Details:
Walter St. Clair is a roots reggae performer who was born in Cleveland Ohio in 1967 and raised in San Diego, California from 1974 until his recent move to Colorado in 2000. His band The Shepherds was a mainstay on the San Diego club circuit in 1993 and ''94 as his 10-piece group packed clubs weekly for a night of ALL original music, from rooty-tooty hypnotic anthems to tightly improvised dubs to up-tempo dance rythmns. The local massive quickly snatched up the 1,000 or so copies of THE SHEPHERDS:FOR THE LOVE CD and a new sound was emerging based on the principles of good roots reggae songwriting, ala Peter Tosh and Bob and Bunny, Winston Rodney, etc. Reggae music from that time was not rythmn driven but lyric and song driven to educate people of the time as well as sooth them with love, the bond that all humans share. Walter''s music wants to continue in this vain of being a messenger to the people, of truth, pain, awareness, our inherent unity as people, and ultimately LOVE, the only thing that can save us from destroying ourselves.
As the need for touring became evident, the entrenched Shepherds had to reform in 1995 as Overstand. Over the next four years, Walter would front and deliver his original style of reggae with Overstand, The 8750 Reggae band and Walter St. Clair and The Overstand Band, always maintaining a healthy touring schedule of the Rockies and Southwest and releasing a "Live at The Belly Up'' cassette in 1995 and a full length album entitled Walter St. Clair and The Overstand Band: Moving Forward, in 1997 . Also, during this stretch Walter''s groups opened for ALL the big acts of reggae touring then--Isreal Vibration, Burning Spear, Culture just to name a few--and delighted audiences in the fact there was a up-and-coming roots reggae powerhouse from the good old USA, carrying on the traditions those same groups had begun some 20 years earlier.
WALTER ST. CLAIR: MORNING HERBS was released in 2002 and is a fine example of the different, original sounding rthymns his bands were playing over the 1990''s, as well as some studio versions of never released material.. An eclectic mix of reggae sounds with no two songs sounding alike. Walter''s soothing vocals are layered over a talented mix of some of America''s finest musicians for a CD you can leave playing from #1 to #12.
