After spending most of his adult life working with bands on the road & in the studio, percussionist & keyboardist Carl Wergyn has made use of technology, rhythm, & spirituality to create his first CD of original music. It''s a relaxing & energizing collection that displays a love of international & symphonic instrumentation.
"Walk Softly...." contains eleven compositions, including three vocal pieces sung by three distinctive female vocalists. "I asked these wonderful women to approach the songs in their own style, and sing them as if they were sitting on a couch talking with a good friend," he explains.
These and the instrumental pieces were pure inspiration to compose: "I wanted to musically portray the events of a day from the soul''s point of view. For example, ''Intro to You'' is a gentle reminder of our quiet magnificence. ''Shams of Tabriz'' recalls time spent with an old friend, whose friendship is much older than one may realize. ''Eveningsong'' was inspired by a recording of crickets by David Carson in which this remarkably beautiful choral theme unfolds when the chirping is slowed to the proportion of a human lifespan. ''Urban Awakening'' is a scene of street musicians gathered on the steps of a cathedral, realizing their common language."
