Josh Schicker loves Christmas music.
Some of his favorites examples of great
songwriting are holiday songs like Mel Torme’s
“The Christmas Song” and the melancholy hymn
“O Come, O Come Emmanuel”. Over the past
3 years, Schicker has been collecting a set of original
holiday songs with no plan for release.
During a break from the tour, Josh finished demos of these
songs which are now found on this EP.
While touring with AG Silver on their Clean Water for
Africa Tour, Josh found himself playing a song
he wrote in Portland about giving. The basic idea is that
the small changes we make in our world can make a big
difference. In life, a small amount of grace leads to
a great amount of peace. What seems insignificant from
one point of view can turn into something very special.
In that same spirit these songs emerge under the title
“Grace then Peace”.
Now, there are a few stories to tell...
While living in New York, Josh found himself wandering
the streets of Manhattan with a camera case in one hand
and a steno notebook in the other. The result is a few hours
of random holiday video, some stills of various things that
caught his eye and a few of the songs included on this EP.
The most important piece that came of these creative walks
is the picture that sits next to this paragraph. The word
“peace” is from an Abraham Lincoln quote on a building near
Grand Central Station and the word “grace” is from the
Grace Building that sits on Bryant Park. The two images
form a word-pairing that became ingrained in Schicker’s mind.
A year later, the EP is released in that same idea
