When you think about Oklahoma you think about college football and basketball. You might even think about the now notorious Langston University students featured in BET’s “College Hill”. Oklahoma City sits in between Chicago and Dallas and “quiet as it’s kept” is home to the multi-talented wordsmith and producer Kurt Dogg.
Kurt Dogg started his musical journey in true hip hop tradition by DJing at high school parties, night clubs and of course the neighborhood house parties. MCing these parties manifested into writing rhymes to make those top 40 hit instrumentals his own. Knowing how to rock the clubs and parties as a DJ and seeing the response he garnered from his original hooks and lyrics lit in him the desire to create and perform original material. Kurt being influenced by some of the rap game’s finest ( Dr. Dre, Eric Sermon, Battle Cat, Ice Cube and EPMD) taught himself how to play the piano. After mastering the keys he invested in learning how to program recording equipment. As most cases where the desire meets the talent Kurt produced tracks that fully showcased his talents as one of the hottest lyricists in the Southwest.
Now that his production had met his lyrics he was ready to open up for the South’s best rap groups. Opening up for Three 6 Mafia, Lil Flip, Choppa and Weebie to name a few exposed his talents to industry vet Terry Renfrow. Talent meeting up with music industry experience in radio and marketing has lead him to where he is today.
Kurt Dogg’s album “No Excuses” is the combined efforts of his production team and Terry Renfrow’s (Southern Life Entertainment) guidance. This talented duo has created an album that can not be denied by anyone. The music production and memorable hooks will have DJ’s spinning it multiple times during their club sets.
