I have given my life to Christ, but I have also taken it back. I identify myself with Jesus, but I often reject him or turn my back on him.
It is very clear to me that I CANNOT live for him, when I am not dead to myself. I CANNOT die to myself, when He is not in me. My need for Him is barely known to me. But I DO NOT desire any longer to be separate from Him or independent, but to be fully dependent on Him; more than the air I breathe. I can be tempted and I may even fall, but as long as He is with me, I will rise above the need for self gratification and the lust for the things of this world.
I recognize that the value of my life is not what I do, but who I am. Because I have chosen His life and dependence, I am a child of the King; who is Lord of the universe and lover of my soul.
Jesus loves me and offers this life to me because He wants to share Himself with me, not just because I chose to follow him. I love Him because He did not force Himself on me and he values a relationship with me despite my status in the world.
When I understand that I am nothing without Him and choose to surrender my life to Him, I please Him and He blesses my life in ways I could never hope for otherwise. When I am filled with pride and arrogance and lean on my own understanding, he makes even the most treasured thing of this world of no value and living unbearable.
My life can either be an instrument of torture or an instrument of blessing no matter what my financial status is. I CANNOT make my life count, I can only choose independence or dependence. And when I choose this dependence, it WILL count because it will be for His glory and not mine.
As believers we are living sacrifices; meaning we can crawl off of the alter. We get to die daily, but we don''t always choose to.
All my positive motivations, good intentions, well meaning plans, righteous deeds and thoughful gestures add up to a pile of ruble; unless He is my life and He''s is getting the glory.
