Details:
Born in Harare – Zimbabwe on May 6th 1979, Zivanai Masango is often referred to as a “musician’s musician”. Although he is a multi-instrumentalist, his instrument of choice is the guitar. Despite having soared as a trumpet player, he picked up guitar at the age of 20 and has never looked back. His deeply expressive, melodic and lyrical style of guitar playing has wowed and mesmerized audiences and earned him respect and a place amongst great world-class musicians.

Zivanai has released two full length albums to date and with each of them, he has proved why he has been touted as one of the leading torchbearers of quality Afropop and world music into the future. With rich, really heartfelt vocals and well-crafted songwriting, topped with airtight rhythms and master musicianship, the albums Dutu –Storm (2007) and Pachedu (2005) defy genre categorization with touches of Soul, RnB, Jazz, Rock and Reggae while maintaining that strong unmistakable mystery of African music. Between traditional and contemporary, Zivanai’s music is a fusion and reflection of life in his native land of Zimbabwe and his current home, the USA.

Zivanai has shared the stage and performed with some of the world’s most revered musicians such as Thomas Mapfumo, Oliver Mtukudzi, Hugh Masekela, The String Cheese Incident, Buddy Guy, Maxi Priest and others far too many to mention. More recently, he has been seen performing with the band Panjea and fronting his Afropop dance band PACHEDU with which he has earned praises as “a captivating performer, whose concerts always include improvisation and dazzling interplay between audiences and band members, epitomizing what great live music is all about
