Wizard and Oz were a crowd favorite at our festival. Andrew’s piano prowess takes a back seat to no one. David is one of the most versatile singers in the business, amazing! And they come out to play…and play and play!! They raised the roof at our mainstage a full foot!! Wizard and Oz are true pros who give all they got each time out.

“Piano virtuosity – stunning vocals – a great night’s entertainment not to be missed” Gillian & David Helfgott ( Shine )

The Wizard and Oz

The audience notices Andrew Farrell in the Weimar Room. It is hard not to, as he is a tall figure with a Gandalf beard in orange robes! You get the feeling that he might be the Wizard in the show that is due to start soon.

When he takes his seat at the piano, it becomes obvious that the nickname means something else as well - he indeed works his magic with the keys, and casts his spell over the audience.

David McMillan joins him, working his own magic of vocals and guitar. These men produce some of the finest music in diverse styles that you are ever likely to hear.

The instrumental "Catherine Of Aragon" by Rick Wakeman, Johann Pachelbel''s "Canon in D", and on to some flamenco.

Even that 1987 hit "At this Moment" by Billy Vera and the Beaters.
Wizard and Oz are closing the show each night at the Cabaret fringe. Do not leave without hearing them! Daily

A dynamic duo with a repertoire second to none. Wizard & Oz brought the 2006 Paynesville Jazz Festival to a halt with thunderous applause and patrons screaming for more. Andrew and David stand alone as Australia''s foremost duo; versatile, pleasing to listen to (and watch); presenting more than was in their section of the program. Wizard & Oz - the stars of our festival and I can still hear the patrons applause.
John R Dickinson, Festival Director.

The Wizard and Oz appeared first, Andrew Farrell ( The Wizard), one of the finest piano players in the country, totally unique. I have never seen anyone do what he can do, from classical to todays music, together with Dave McMillan’s (Oz), dynamic guitar playing and amazing voice. The audience was spellbound as the pair performed, in their own style classics from the 60’s and 70’s. Beatles, Ray Charles, Doobie Bros, Rod Stewart, Joni Mitchel, James Taylor etc. etc. Plus their own music. The list was endless. Over 200 people witnessed a stunning set by these two, someone asked me " How can two people create so much power and feeling and have the audience so absorbed?" I don’t know how, but they always do and this performance was no exception! There is no way to explain them other than to say; " They are mind numbingly spectacular", a quote from Neville Drummond who was in the audience from the Inverloch Jazz Festival.
