Details:
Born and raised in the Tampa Bay area of Florida, Jeff began playing trumpet at the age of twelve. Jeff’s move to jazz trumpeter began by accident, and was born out of a failed attempt at guitar lessons as a small boy. Private trumpet lessons evolved into hard work recognized, and an eventual invitation to study at the prestigious University of Miami School of Music. Jeff honed his considerable talents in various Florida hotspots. On stage, Jeff has worked with notable musicians, some of which include Tom Braxton, Marilyn McCoo, Julie Andrews, Bob Hope, Harry Connick, Sr, The Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra and Dave Brubeck. Jeff’s most recent mentor was trumpet legend Leon Merian. One of the things that Jeff prides himself on is not being the kind of trumpeter who can only play one type of music. He cut his teeth on big band music. Even still today Jeff is in great demand by big bands as a lead player as well as soloist. Recently, Jeff spent two years as a member of the Leon Merian big band as featured soloist. The band mainly performed at Bongo’s nightclub in Bradenton, Florida and was featured in the international Jazz Times magazine. “ The place was always packed. So much so, that the owner booked the band indefinitely.” Jeff has played in a variety of musical groups from pop, blues, jazz, and classical. Jeff played with the Syncats, a rat-pack style group at the Soaring Eagle Casino in Detroit. The group was the featured entertainment for the 2004 New Years Eve gala celebration. Jeff’s true love is playing in small jazz groups. “I love the freedom to express myself and be creative in a small combo. This past Labor Day I was invited to play with Ghalib Ghallab at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. While playing Miles Davis’ “So What”, Darrell Williams the bass player and I traded fours and had a blast.” In October 2004, Jeff played lead trumpet with “Big Z and the Sophisticats” a rhythm and blues group that was the opening act for Victor Wooten at the Clearwater Jazz Holiday.
In 2007, Jeff as invited to perform with Tom Braxton during his performance in Dallas, Texas.
While still living in Florida, Jeff released his first solo album Captiva. The Cd fell into the hands of Kim Giles of WSJT 94.1 a smooth jazz radio station in Tampa, Florida. Jeff was promptly booked as the featured artist at several local jazz festivals. “It was so exciting on that first event in Sarasota. There were over two thousand people dancing and jamming to my music. We played almost all originals that night and sold a ton of Cd’s.” Jeff now calls his home base Dallas, Texas where he spends his time composing and recording. Jeff can be seen performing regularly around the Dallas, Texas area with such groups like " The Pearson Brothers", "The Bobby Riese Group", in addition to his own group.
