Blackholicus is a four-piece metal band from Austin, Texas that formed in 2002. The band plays in the style of early Iron Maiden and Motorhead, and combine elements of thrash metal, prog rock, baroque and punk.
Under its current line-up, Blackholicus released its debut album, "Variations in Death Minor," in 2006 and for the three years following were named in the Austin Music Awards as one of the top metal bands of the city. They''ve played two South by Southwest showcases, and many shows in Austin and San Antonio, opening for bands such as The Sword, Saviours, Slough Feg, Cancer Bats and The Last Vegas. One Halloween they played Iron Maiden''s 1984 "Powerslave" album in full, and are shown in a YouTube video playing a piece of Bach''s "Two-Part Invention No. 4 in D minor."

See, the band is fronted by bassist/singer Margaret Myrick, who has been studying her instrument for well over a decade. On her MySpace page, she lists guitar virtuoso Yngwie Malmsteen as one of her primary influences, which goes a long way to explaining her fondness for bass lines both lightning-fast and dizzyingly complicated.
She''s also about 5 feet tall, looking roughly hobbit-sized next to tall guitarists Michael Nelsen and Domenic Schiera (or, as I call them, "Boromir and Aragorn"). Nelsen and Schiera''s twin-guitar harmonies draw from the new wave of British heavy metal titans such as Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. As for drummer Spencer Swietek, with his giant tom-toms hit with cave-in force, throw a beard on him and we have our Gimli! (No room for pretty boy Legolas here, people.)"
