About Bittersweet (single)

Bittersweet (Vol. 1) is the first in a series of singles containing two songs each: a happy one, usually about funny situations to do with relationships (Chris Rock comes to mind here); and a bonus track, which in most cases will be more mature and serious, perhaps in the form of a love song. Diametrically opposed, you say? You bet. But, it saves me a few bucks from not having to release two 1-song singles! ;-)

The first track in Bittersweet is called Fresh off the Lot. This song was very fun to record. It is straight rock ‘n’ roll with lots of guitars and some nice vocal harmonies. Fresh off the Lot is about a cocky, young fellow who believes he’s “the kind of guy you dream about.” There’s some wit to the lyrics, but I also tried to keep them clean so that anyone can sing along, from 7-year-olds to the senior crowd!

Bittersweet’s bonus track is called We’ll Never Change. It is a rock ballad; a love song. I really like this song, but it was a lot of hard work to get it recorded. More than I had expected anyway (keep in mind it''s all just me, from the piano to the guitars). In the end, I think it paid off handsomely. The song evolves from a humble vocal accompanied by a lonely piano to a full scale rock band with a string orchestra, organ, synths, and a cute small choir singing the chorus lines in unison. Just for kicks, I threw in a vocal part with my little impression of Joe Cocker! I know... it''s not even close... alas... ;-)

About me

Hi, there! I’m Robert Lee Arroway, Jr. and I''m a songwriter (I''m a solo act so what''s the point in writing in the 3rd person? ;-). Or as I like to call it, I’m a songsmith and my workshop is my little home studio. Trying to be a composer, lyricist, arranger, producer, performing artist, and audio engineer all in one package is not an easy task, but I do my best.

I take much pride in my music. Some of the songs I compose are fun and witty, while others are more emotive. You might hear electric guitars here; perhaps there you might find a piano and a clarinet.

I approach writing lyrics from a storyteller’s standpoint. Unlike many other artists, not everything in my music is about me! In fact, a lot of it might really be about you or someone you know. Or it might as well be about someone you’ve never known, somewhere you’ve never been to. And I guess that''s the beauty of music as an art form: it takes us places new and old; it makes us laugh, it brings tears to our eyes; it connects with us on different levels.
