These are the heartstrings of families who have held medically fragile children in their arms. They are the threads that bind hearts together. They are also the components of this CD, to help encourage and comfort anyone who has faced sorrow or pain.
Jana James has been a musician/pianist and songwriter all of her life, but when she chose to pursue a nursing career several years ago, she never dreamed she would be so musically inspired by her patients. In October 2005, she became one of the nurses to Cassidy ("Cassie") and Skylar Swanson, twin girls, diagnosed with SMA...Spinal Muscular Atrophy. There was an incredible hope that radiated from the girls...a hope that the next day would be better than the day before, and that life is essentially good. A song began to form in Jana''s heart about angels being among us in disguise and "Unseen Wings" was born. The song debuted at the 8th annual SMA Angels Charity Ball in Savannah, GA that year.
On June 9, 2006, Cassie, at age nine, received her angel wings and left behind a legacy of purest love for her family and friends. "Sweet Little Angel" imagines what kind of life Cassie is living now and embraces her presence still in our hearts. It was Jana''s way of coping with missing her so much. Kyle Dillingham''s violin brings haunting strains of ethereal music in this tribute to a special little girl.
Skylar continues to inspire us daily with her overwhelming strength and courage...she is the axis on which this album turns. This is reflected in, "I Will Be Strong". Dave Skinner on the acoustic guitar captures the spirit of this moving piece.
We all have trouble falling asleep sometimes. "Angel Shore", with soothing piano and cello, brings peace and comfort that blanket the soul like the waves of the sea. Close your eyes and you will hear the ocean sounds and seagulls, taking you to a beautiful place of solace.
"There is a God" is profound and encouraging. In four minutes time, it says more about healing and grace than many sermons in a lifetime. The simple message is...He mends the brokenhearted. You will be moved by the powerful vocals in this touching song.
From a different perspective, "Hope and A Prayer" lets you see through the eyes of a medically fragile child. It has a surprise ending that will make you smile and say a prayer of gratitude. The last song, "Angel Wings" a sweet little song sung by a seven year old for her friends.
Through the miraculous lives of Cassidy and Skylar, SMA Angels Charity, Inc. was formed in 1999, striving to bring healing to the hearts of families and loved ones dealing with SMA. SMA is the "Number One Genetic Killer of Children Under the Age of Two". The proceeds from this CD will go to continuing research for a cure and to improve quality of life for children with SMA...together we will change lives.
