"John has a smoky voice and a style that makes you want to camp out on a barstool and soak it in.” - singer/songwriter J.P. Sharpe

The Vancouver Province newspaper’s music critic, Stuart Derdeyn says, “Pippus is a refined tunesmith with serious pop hooks worked into tales of love, longing and the like. From the sexy urgency of ‘Oh Oh Oh’ with the sultry Nat Jay to the lilting ‘Little Things,’ this disc is varied and impressive.”

Highlights in John’s singer/songwriting career include playing Nashville’s Bluebird Café, The Tractor Tavern in Seattle, Bruxelles Bar in Dublin, and the historic Yale Hotel in Vancouver. As well, he has co-written songs with Ra McGuire (Trooper), Nashville-based Angela Lauer, Austin’s Kacy Crowley, and many of Vancouver’s best young talent. He has also had songs selected for various compilation CDs (including The War Child Project), and airplay on numerous Canadian and America radio stations. In early March 2009, John played on the Main Stage at the Newtown Festival in Wellington New Zealand, alongside many of that country’s top acts.

“I’m a fan.” – Jane Weidlin of The Gogos

Last year, John was one of twenty five songwriters – and the only Canadian - invited to attend the Steel Bridge Songfest in Wisconsin. This event, organized by Pat MacDonald (Timbuk3), culminated with an all-day festival headlined by Jackson Browne, Jane Weidlin (The Gogos), and Eric McFadden (P-Funk, Eric Burdon). Sharing the stage with the aforementioned, John performed two of five songs co-written that week on the main stage for an audience of thousands.

Many of the songs on “This City” are part of a new, one-man musical memoir debuting at the Vancouver and Victoria Fringe Festivals in the summer of ''09.

“LOVE your songs.” - singer/songwriter Stephanie Lang
