TATER FAMINE
Santa Cruz, CA
Tater Famine was formed in late 2006 in Aptos, California, just outside of Santa Cruz. The guys all worked at a local hotel/restaurant and had a hankering for playing acoustic folk, traditional and country music. All the boys had Punk and Rock backgrounds to begin with, but wanted to try something else. Johnny Dodds and Matteo Brunozzi had been roommates and started playing old tunes together, after Matteo had picked up his first mandolin. Mat Warren popped in after work with his newly aquired standup bass "Sweet Baby Jesus" and they started having jam sessions at the pad. The earliest songs were mainly Irish covers and inspired originals in the vein of the Pogues, Dubliners and Flogging Molly; hence the name Tater Famine, in reference to the Great Potato Famine in the 19th century Ireland. Bassist Mat started throwing in more country and folk influence, bringing over albums from Pete Seeger, Hank Williams, and the Weary Boys. The boys soon integrated their Punk Rock influences into the mix. Their first show was on St. Patty''s Day in 2007. Johnny and Matteo toured Europe for four months in 2007, and when they returned, the band started playing the West coast and haven''t stopped since. Their first full-length album, An Untimely Fashion, was released in December of 2008. There first US tour is set for Summer 2009.
