Details:
Chris Dignam has been playing guitar since he was nine years old. As a child, his introduction to the instrument focused on classical and jazz guitar theory, and technique. These early approaches to the instrument focused on the playing style and technical approaches of master guitarists such as Wes Montgomery, Paco De Lucia, and Django Reinhart. Dignam’s interests in the instrument peaked after being exposed to rock and blues. These later and more influential players include Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Carlos Santana, and Eric Johnson.
Dignam’s latest release Greenlit provided him with an opportunity to explore his many guitar and musical influences and limitless boundaries to express his pallet of ideas. Not only did Dignam play guitar, bass, and keyboards on the Greenlit, he also played mandolin, bouzouki, hammer dulcimer, and kantele on selected tracks – completing the nuances between the guitar and one another.
Greenlit features 12 instrumental guitar tracks and one song with vocals. The CD was produced by Dignam and includes a variety of songs that incorporate many elements of heavy rock guitar with blues, classical, Middle Eastern, and flamenco underlinings. All the songs on the disc were written and arranged by Dignam and demonstrate a mastery of the instrument. Greenlit does not sound like every other instrumental rock guitar disc released over the past several years. The sound is ambient and varies widely from to the thunderous riffs of Hand of God and blazing solos in CoeXisT and The Charlie Foxtrot to the more soulful playing on Road to Forgiveness. The disc also features a wonderfully written and orchestrated vocal track by Dignam titled End of the Line, featuring acclaimed cellist Eric Remschneider, best known for his work with The Smashing Pumpkins on their release Siamese Dream and Pumpkin’s subsequent tour. Dignam’s writing and production on Greenlit is fine-polished and is one of the best instrumental guitar recordings to emerge in recent times and will undoubtedly set a new standard for the instrument.
