Andy Shaw Band is about unity. They are about bringing people, their community, and the world together through positivity. Their album, entitled "Ways of the World" shows that. It’s about personal struggle on a lot of levels, but healing of self and the world on more important levels.
The Band, which crafts elements of reggae, rock, blues, and their love for melody and groove, has been growing and changing over the last 4 years of existence. Andy Shaw comes from a rich background in music, trained as a jazz and classical trumpet player from a young age. After spending a year of college at the famed University of North Texas for Jazz, he sought out a less competitive way to perform and write music. Four years later, and a degree from Columbia College Chicago, helped craft his songwriting ear, and landed him back in Columbus to start his band. Adding brother Chris Shaw, who is a classically trained violinist, well schooled drummer, and accomplished songwriter himself, the two had the core of the Andy Shaw Band. Their father Jim Shaw, who is a music teacher, and composer, quickly joined on keyboards, and Bobby Wildermuth, a high school friend of Chris, took over bass duties in 2006. After recording the Summer''s Coming LP, Theo Perry of the Floorwalkers joined the group in 2008, adding a third vocal harmony and lead guitar. In January of the same year the band was given the honor of becoming the Monday night house band at Ruby Tuesday’s on Summit, and have been crafting and growing their sound at an exponential rate. New songs, more dynamically rich, and melodically strong began to emerge, as the band honed in on their original sound. At the end of 2008 the Andy Shaw Band recorded their new LP Ways of the World with Joe Viers of the Sonic Lounge, which is due out in March of 2009.
