Details:
Maurice Cope was once described as a ''poet using the string as his pen'' and that his playing evokes a ''somewhat dark musical lyricism''. Whenever and wherever he plays his audiences are always drawn to the warmth and sincerity inherent in his music.

From the early part of his life as a student at the Guildhall School of Music London, he has gained a lot of experience and knowledge of playing the repertoire of the classical guitar. Throughout his career he has also developed an interest in transcribing, arranging and performing music from the Renaissance and Baroque. His interpretations of music from this period explore the guitar’s wonderful shades of dynamic expression, subtle timbre and strength of sound. His performances reveal a beautiful transcendent melancholy, a mood in which the guitar is much in sympathy with its many predecessors, including the lute and the baroque guitar.

His playing has been heard in many Countries and he has appeared on both radio and television in the UK and abroad. He has also worked extensively as a session player for film, television, and the popular music industry. Maurice plays all of the modern variations of the guitar including the electric bass guitar.

Maurice’s interest in ancient music is linked to his contribution to ''Crossover and World Music''. It is in this area that he has drawn on his extensive experience of working in different musical genres from which he creates interesting and new music.

Maurice lives in the Cambridge area of the UK where he gives lessons on all of his instruments and is known as an inspiring tutor. He is a member of The Registry of Guitar Tutors and holds a full CRB Certificate to work with young people.

He studied the classical guitar and musical composition at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama London under Antonio Albanes and later with Hector Quine. His composition studies were completed under Professor Adrain Thorne.
