Biography
The eclectic musical talents of Steve Clisby as a dedicated performer, composer, and producer have earnt him the privilege of working and touring with some of the world’s best jazz, funk and R&B leaders (Tina Turner, Chaka Khan, Hot Chocolate, Kool and the Gang, Crusaders, Mothers Finest, Level 42, Hot Chocolate, Santana, James Cotton Blues Band, Charles Lloyd, Frank Zappa, Taj Mahal, Dennis Chambers, John Lee; Dale Barlow Narada Michael Walden; Errol Brown; Ashley Ingram) and a legion of faithful audiences seeking to satisfy their cravings for his smooth soulful sounds.
Born in California, he developed the foundations of his fused funk, jazz and R&B musical style over 15 years based in Holland (Europe’s musical epicenter of the time), and touring extensively throughout Europe as part of the frontier R&B band ‘American Gypsy’.
Steve’s composing and song writing from the American Gypsy album attracted the attention of contemporary musicians with Groove Armada re-recording “Whatever Whenever” on their album (originally titled “Inside Out”) and Neneh Cherry using "Golden Ring" on the album "Man".
Since moving to Australia in ’94 and forming the production company Miracle8, Steve released various live recordings and has built a solid reputation in the local industry as a popular live performer at various Sydney venues and jazz festivals. He has also worked solidly as a producer, artist development specialist, lecturer at SAE (School of Audio Engineering, Sydney), and popular session singer whose familiar voice can be heard in various TV advertising jingles and voice-overs.
Steve optimism and passion for life transfers effortlessly into his music and live performances, leaving a buzz that stays with the audience long after the music has stopped.
