Howie was born in the Boston area in 1951. He studied classical piano and trumpet as a child and developed his love for all things musical in high school and college both in the States and abroad while an exchange student during the early 70’s.
Howie is also a proud veteran who chose to serve his country by enlisting in the Army during the mid 70’s as a trumpeter in the 84th United States Army Band based in Stuttgart, West Germany.
For the last 40 years Howie has been performing, touring and recording other people’s music in the States and abroad. Recognized for his talent as a jazz pianist and especially for his improvisational skills, Howie has toured and performed throughout the States and Europe.
For over 20 years, as a member of the iconic New Age/ World Music group “Robert Gass and On Wings of Song” he was the solo trumpeter, pianist and a vocalist. He performed and toured extensively with the group and also appears on over a dozen “Robert Gass and On Wings of Song” recordings which are on the Spring Hill Music label.
Although Howie has always composed music, “Oil Man Commander-in-Chief” is the first time he has recorded some of his unique and multifaceted compositions. More is definitely on the way! On this CD Howie is the pianist, trumpeter, a vocalist and the musical director.
Although he is not one to make political statements in a public way, Howie felt compelled to create “Oil Man Commander-in-Chief.” He feels that, during this time in our planet’s history, certain people in authority were not careful in making life altering decisions for the world and the world paid a very high price. He feels very strongly that we must be consciously careful and caring of each other within our world community. However, he also believes that it is not too late and there is still hope and optimism for this beautiful world we all share.
He hopes this CD reflects that belief.
In his alternate mild mannered professional life, Howie, (his nickname in high school which he now uses to protect the innocents in his life), is an accountant who resides by the sea north of Boston with his wife of over 25 years.
