On a Wednesday night in April, three guys who were only jamming for the love of music entered battle of the bands Futuresfest in Edmonton. With former winners like Social Code and Tupelo Honey, and with ten well known bands competing, the boys who called themselves White Lightning battled fiercely for only their second time in front of a crowd. Their battle resulted in a victory, and an unknown group who''s name ''sounds like an 80''s butt rock band,'' launched the trio into a career in Rockdom.
After their surprising win, Edmonton talent scouts as well as the local media celebrated White Lightning’s unique sound and performance. “They were really high energy. The fact there were only three, and the musicality and harmonies were phenomenal... they were great at engaging the crowd.” Eric Gerstenbuhler for the St. Albert Gazette.
White Lightning is a three-piece modern rock band that has been likened to The Strokes, Foo Fighters, and Queen. Their unique sound has been described as an eclectic mixture of rock with a Brit-Rock influence, and is distinguished by their solid three part harmonies. Led by front man and guitarist Steve Bosch; their tight, groovy and upbeat sound is driven by the amazing musicality of Jimmy Rushton on bass guitar, and Enoch Rottier on drums.
Since their battle of the bands win in April of 2008, White Lightning has been keeping busy with a consistent schedule of shows and the long hours of rehearsal and writing. They constantly strive to put on a show that is energetic and engaging, without sacrificing an ounce of the musicality in their live performance. In September of 2008, the band released their first EP to a sold out crowd in St. Albert, highlighting their continued success as a band by the remarkable growth in local fans.
Starting early this year, White Lightning has been working hard in the studio, recording their second EP, a professional demo produced by prominent music producer Terry Lesperance, out of Ontario. The release of this new EP is highly anticipated by members of the Edmonton music scene and will be released in May. White Lightning will continue to rock and inspire the world with Peace Love and Lightning.
