Blackbutton is an alternative rock/blues duo led by front man and guitarist J. M. Tavenner with Anshul Jain on drums.
Formed in late 2007, the pair started weaving drums into songs which Tavenner had previously been playing and performing acoustically since 2006. The result is a new alternative that jumps out at you and pulls on your heart-strings. Tavenner sings his profound lyrics about love (lost), loss, and abandonment with a voice passionate and mesmerizing, in low, serious tones that escalate into near shouting as the songs climax. One melody is dark and weeping with a sharp whine on the guitar backed by a gentle rhythm on the high hat, and the next Tavenner slips a metal slide on his finger and the two become fast paced and sweaty as their synergy builds and lights up the stage. The synchronicity between the two is unspoken but more than apparent the moment they start playing, with everything timed and delivered perfectly.
