The Makings of This House by The Slant provides its listeners wide ranging stylistic shifts while remaining cohesive and relevant at the same time. Recorded in the summer of 2008 at their collective home, this album features a slurry of folk instruments (banjo, acoustic guitar, mandolin, etc), electric instrumentation (synthesizers, loops, electric guitar), thick vocal harmonies, and various other sound making devices including trombone. This release also features the sounds of the house, from the creaks of the kitchen and reverb of stairwells to manipulations of doors, and, of all things, beards grown there. The Slant’s third release, this disc promises to be memorable with its eclectic folk-based experimentation and subtle twists in both music and thought.
