Suffolk, Virginia born and raised, on the playground is where they spent most of their days. Sounds familiar doesn''t it, well these three individuals basically started out their lives as normal kids. You know, wanting to grow up and be a NFL or NBA superstar, but that wasn''t in the cards for these three. Something much more than they ever would have thought they would be blessed with. A talent that most people dream of having but don''t obtain the gift of gab. Theotis "5ive Stars" Porter 26, Brothers: Tavaris "Ghost Merck" Mitchell 23, and Jeffery "Spook" Cook 21 make up the trio known as the ILL INDIES, along with the smooth vocals of Eric "Ace" Knight 26, which also hails the aliases of the ill individuals or simply double "i". Since 1999, the ILL INDIES have been rocking mics at various venues stretching from New York to Atlanta and have attracted lots of attention from some of the most known artist and producers in the music industry with their unorthodox style. Most notably Super producer Roosevelt "Binkdog" Harrell lll of One Shot Deal, which has took the ill indies under his wing to help polish their talents into diamonds with his incredible beats, and now "Ace" was on MTV attempting to make the band had his chances and did very good due to his excellent singing abilities and dancing skills. The group also worked with Super producers Bangladesh, The Thundakats and Nico from Sho Nuff Records. Most would compare the ILL INDIES to Outkast, Kanye West, Field Mob, Ludacris, Dead Prez or Goodie Mob. Although, the group would argue that comparison because it feels as if their style is original and it deserves a category by itself. The group is known for their message oriented rhymes, along with their unique flow and catchy hooks which they would just call hip hop music, on any and every topic facing the world today from 9-11 to the Hurricane Katrina disaster to politics. What makes this group different from others is that they have remarkable chemistry, they think outside the box, and they are not afraid to try something new. They don''t just follow the path of others, they are out to blaze a new path for people to follow, because they are trendsetters. They have been represented in Youth Violence forums and various Stop the Violence campaigns around Virginia and also have an excellent standing in their community.
Currently they are working with Dreammakerz Management and Perception Media Group who is getting them ready for big things in 2009. The group will be releasing their new single “Love Express” this spring and will start a promotional tour throughout the mid-Atlantic region and the dirty south.
