David began his musical career as a prominent member of the vocal harmony group Dark Roses. Together, they were electric, and the blend was tight. Their debut single "I like the girls" became a hit on the UK underground scene with the video receiving steady rotation on music TV which secured them a deal with Universal Music.
April 2008 saw the digital release of Mensah’s first solo offering “Food of Love” through Universal Music. “Food of Love” is David’s contribution to a compilation album called A Change is Gonna Come which was recorded to celebrate the 200 year anniversary of the abolition of the slave trade. For this project Mensah joined forces with legendary artists such as the 30 million record selling Billy Ocean, Grammy award winning Junior Giscombe, Ruby Turner, Don E, Janet Kay and Roachford to name a few. Proceeds from the album are being donated to charities, Save the Children, Freetown Society and the Prince''s Trust to stamp out modern day forms of slavery. Following the digital release of “Food of Love” a sampler EP was released to radio which included Food of Love, Lately, Hennessy, and My Day all songs written by David Mensah. The Food of Love promo CD has already attracted lots of attention climbing to the number 10 spot on the Solar Radio Sweet Rhythm Chart. David’s songs can now be heard on radio stations across Europe, America and Africa spelling out a bright future for this rising star. All of this radio play has also attracted attention from the media both online and in print. The Times, Guardian and Blues and Soul magazine have shown particular interest in the Wilberforce 200 project.
Mensah recently recorded “Close to My Roots” with the long-time Roc-A-Fella lieutenant, Memphis Bleek who featured on Jay-Z''s debut album. “Close to My Roots” is a track written for an album called “The African Express”. The album project has been orchestrated by top US producer Coptic who rose to global success with records produced for Notorious BIG, https://www.tradebit.comdy, Snoop Dog, Jermaine Dupri, Faith Evans, Bobby Valentino, Trey Songs, Ludacris, Ice Cube and Mase to name a few. One of Coptic''s smash hits was the worldwide number 1 hit “I Need a Girl” with https://www.tradebit.comdy and Usher. The album will offer an innovative blend of acoustic African sounds and Hip Hop drums with confirmed appearances on the album from the unique talents of premiere artists like Memphis Bleek, Black Moon, Smiff N Weston, Dead Prez and African super stars such as Grammy Award nominated Angélique Kidjo who recently headlined at Live Earth.
