Details:
Familia’s debut album, Golden Lies, is a sonic battlefield where the war between
the underground and the mainstream; the flesh and the spirit; the dance-floor and
the garage is fought but never finished. From song to song, Golden Lies, is a
dynamic, dark-pop/rock listening experience stacked with honest lyrics and
clever melodic transitions. Throughout the album the passionate soul-meets-rock
vocals soar with conviction and leaves your spirit deeply refreshed.
The haunting innocence of the album’s intro prepares you with a stirring
uncertainty for what’s to come. “Seventeen” is a song about redemptive healing
from deep wounds. The sharp-shuffling back beat makes for a memorable off-
kilter love song. “More” is an infectious yet serious pop song with an instinctive
sing-along chorus. The lyrics and melody’s combine flawlessly to create an
overall believable tune. The album’s final track “Kinda Like a Mess” is a song
best heard ‘round the campfire; a ghost-story feel yet with a fearless message.
With lines like “You’ve made my flaws your masterpiece” you can’t deny that the
lead singer, Tamara, believes deeply in the beauty of love.
Familia is a band that perfectly marries North American Indie Rock and British
Pop Rock. If Adele and The Strokes were to give birth, Familia would be their
baby, wrapped in the swaddling cloth of Broken Social Scene, Bloc Party and
Metric. With a tightly woven rhythm section of hypnotic bass lines and beats you
can’t help but air drum to, combined with raw guitar soundscapes and a voice like
a siren of the soul Familia is a band you’ll want to adopt into your musical family.
Partnering with producer Jonathan Anderson at Buena Vista Audio, in early 2009
was the relationship they needed to record a debut album they are proud of. It’s
an album that bares their souls, offers their dreams, and asks us to join.
