In the fall of 2005, singer-songwriter-guitarist Alan Garr asked two members of the a cappella group, The Janes, to sing some backups with him at a gig he had scheduled at The General Store Cafe in Pittsboro, NC. Deborah Stewart, Sylvia Garrard, and Alan quickly decided to continue working together, learning many of Alan''s original songs as well as some little known covers. In February of 2006, Alan met up with drummer Keith Matthews at a party and after plowing through a ten minute version of Dylan''s "Knockin'' on Heaven''s Door," asked him to play for the group, which became known as Alan Garr & Interstate 3. The positive results were almost immediate and the four have developed a versatile and unique sound that lends itself to a broad spectrum of musical tastes, with folk and even bossa nova influences. In July of 2006, excellent guitarist, Dan Sullivan joined the group and adds a new sonic dimension to the overall sound.
They currently have a catalog of more than 60 songs and can provide musical entertainment non-stop for at least two hours. Whether accoustic or fully-amped, AG&I-3 now play throughout North Carolina and beyond several times a month and are always looking to expand their play area. They also love to open for more established local and touring acts when the chance arises.
