Details:
The first of three children Christopher Leroy Rudder was born in Toronto, Canada to parents of Barbadian descent. His emcee name ”Alleyne” (pronounced ahhh-lean) is his mother’s maiden name, and he called himself that because of the unconditional love and emotional support she gave him that helped bolster his career in music. The emotional support that encouraged him and the raw musical talent that flows through his veins can be traced down his lineage to Barbados, where his influential, former recording artist and Uncle, Bunny Alleyne used to write, produce, record, and press his albums for his local fans.
Christopher (Alleyne) spent some of his early childhood growing up in the Keele and Lawrence part of Toronto; a crime stricken neighborhood known as the jungle. It was in this culturally diverse neighborhood comprised of many people from Caribbean and African descent that Alleyne became influenced by, and grew up listening to an eclectic selection of genres ranging from jazz, blues and rhythm & blues to soul, gospel, reggae, and calypso. He would spend countless hours scrutinizing the covers and artwork of his father’s albums, and studying how the compositions were arranged, written, produced, and recorded.
Alleyne’s parents eventually left the jungle to the suburbs of Thornhill, where he met Ashley “Sherrkaan” Manoharan (Steel Halo). Ashley was as much of a microphone fiend as Alleyne, and their passion for Hip Hop inspired each other and worked to hone each others skills over time. It was through Steel Halo that Alleyne was introduced to DJ Kevin “Kev-Large” Hewitt. Kev-Large was one of T-dots finest DJ’s and producers/engineers, and his passion for music production and engineering rubbed off on Alleyne and worked to create an environment that fostered Alleyne’s growth as a producer/engineer; thereby expanding his overall capabilities, potential, and value as an artist. This metamorphosis from a rapper to a master of ceremonies/producer/engineer culminated in the creation of Alleyne’s Limestone Studios, which quickly became the lyceum for dozens of independent rappers, singers and song writers from different areas and different walks of life, who taught, learned, and shared their experiences and ideas with regards to life and music. Limestone Studios inevitably fostered an environment for the development of Alleyne’s artistic and intellectual inventiveness, lyrical writing and vocal delivery skills as a hip hop artist, as well as his mixing and producing skills as a producer/engineer.
The success of Limestone Studios combined with Alleyne’s, Steel Halo, and Kev-Large love for Hip Hop attracted like minds and eventually established a growing network of MCs from the Tobermory area in Toronto. It was from this small community of talented young MCs that Alleyne met Temus. Alleyne and Temus would later go on to record two albums “Dying To Survive” (1998) and “Off The Record” (1999), as well 8 other singles. While working on “Off The Record” with Temus and Kev, Alleyne was working on his first official solo album called “Nothing Else Matters” (2000). Alleyne & Temus recorded more singles including two hits “If You Wanna...” and “What’cha Wanna Do?”, which exclusively appeared on the critically acclaimed Artefis - Alive Compilation Volume One (2001 - 2002)
In 2003 Alleyne’s career came to a sudden halt due to a family illness that tragically changed his life, and transformed him mentally and spiritually. His step daughter was diagnosed with brain cancer and later passed away. Alleyne took two years off from music, but after being inspired by his step daughter’s display of courage and conviction in the face of death and despair, Alleyne returned to the game in 2005 with a reignited fire in his belly and began to play with a new paradigm, new objectives and convictions, new values, new lyrics and new head knocker beats.
