Bio-Dana Alberts

Dana Alberts, Singer/Songwriter, Punk Rock Veteran, Skate Rock Founder, Formed “Minus One” In 1981, during the post Punk Rock days in San Francisco. Released Skate Rock Volume I through Thrasher Magazine, appeared on “One Giant Leap”, a compilation record released in England on Venture Records in 1983. Recorded “Where A Man Was Made” in 1984 with Spencer Dryden on drums (Drummer for the “Jefferson Airplane) and Naomi Ruth Isenberg on violin, (former member of Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks)

Toured the U.S. in 1985 with the “Victims” and later that year was approached by Danny Sugarman of the “Doors” after William Burroughs, Iggie Pop, David Bowie and Danny heard a tape, by chance. An offer from Geffen Records soon followed, but personal problems inside the group split the band apart, right at a crucial point in the group’s career.

In 1986, Alberts moved to Oregon to lead a quiet life and retire from music. Upon arriving in Portland, Alberts went to work Fender Musical in Tualitin and immediately joined a band with employees at work and began to play the Oregon club circuit with Portland’s hottest guitar player, Jeff Labansky in “The Addiction.” As a singer for “The Addiction,” Alberts played the top rock clubs and even backed up such artists as Sam Kinison and Andy Summers when they came to town. He also continued writing and recording with bassist Bill Dibacco, a veteran Portland Rocker and studio engineer. During the next five years Alberts and Dibacco recorded a total of three albums which were played on local stations and by local bands in the Portland area.

In the 90''s Dana Moved back to San Francisco to reform “Minus One.” During that time some of the band’s best material was written, but never saw the light of day until now. After a five year hiatus, in which many transformations took place, the death of his mother inspired Dana to finally record a solo album which highlights his unique guitar playing and original songwriting style.

Resurrected from the 90''s “Minus One” music are; Crying Clouds, The Eviction, and Get Used To It. Added to the new album are; Falling From Heaven, written after his mom’s passing, Undertow, Companion, and Shadow Of A Doubt. Most recently are; Happiness Is Hard To Find, a song about drug abuse and new found direction, coupled with; That Thing and Not To Wander, two of the best songs in terms of neo-modern production, on the record.

All in all, Happiness Is Hard To Find is not only a personal statement, but a state of the art production which truly highlights Alberts’ ability to come full circle and present an accurate vision of the current state of his art in a modern rock setting.
“Happiness Is Hard To Find”- The first installment of a solo career on the rise.
