Eisenhower Field Day
Indianapolis band Eisenhower Field Day got their name from a t-shirt and their organic hybrid of energetic, melodic music by skimming the sweet cream from the various forms of ''80s-''90s above- and below-ground pop.
Starting over as three-fourths of primitive pop quartet Turnip Blood, Eisenhower Field Day began writing and recording new material as a trio in late 2001. Their potent combination of oblique guitar, wistful harmonies, and brisk, powerful drumming drew attention, and their 7-song 2003 EP, Our Time in the Colonies, drew raves, with irresistible lead single "Don''t Throw Away," a classroom lament as catchy as it is heartbreaking, and "Exit 51," a fiery ode to day jobs, truck stops, and the midwestern highway.
