It’s been a long time since the music industry has birthed an album worth actually traveling to the record store, cash in hand. Amidst a music generation where various “American Idols” are handed riches and fame off of a hit single they had no hand in composing springs the Mason Hasty Band’s debut album-breaking the corroded mold of new age mainstream genres.
Singer/songwriter Bill Marnin emerges from a quiet Iowa town with a true story to tell. Songs like “No Messages” and “Done Deal” reveal Marnin’s conventional interpretation of loves affect on a common man that is everyone.
But the stories don’t stop souly with the love between a man and a woman; “Inside” expresses his times of personal solitude; and “How Rich” is love for his work and simple kind of life. Each song like a car on a passenger train snaking over the valleys and peaks of life.
The album is a storybook of devolving tales told over several chapters- a story of a simple everyday guy in the emotional fluxes of life- a story about losing, coping, learning and living told thru Marnin’s six-string diary.
The low twang of his voice backed by a distinct groovin’ country- rock sound, makes the Mason Hasty Band’s first cd a humble package of musical prowess.
