Outside In is the debut release from Kyte, a Nashville based band that was born on accident. After singer/guitarist Justin Schipper received word that the bass player wasn’t going to make it to the studio, he decided to go ahead with the recording sessions anyway, tracking most of the guitar, bass and assorted instruments himself along with drummer Dave Ray. This collaborative effort gave the EP, which was originally planned to be a solo project for Schipper, more of a band feel. Their combined use of the traditional rock lineup of guitar, bass and drums with unorthodox sounds and ambient textures has garnered favorable comparisons to Pete Yorn and Wilco.
A concept album of sorts, Outside In chronicles the reconstruction of a relationship. From the initial apology of “Lover to Me” to the final affirmation of “You Make Me Love,” the songs are described by Schipper as, “…almost too personal for comfort, but hopefully that’s what makes them relatable.”
Outside In is now available online at https://www.tradebit.com. Look for Kyte’s first full length LP in the winter of ’06.
