Details:
Kristie Agee is a native of Kennett, Missouri – a small town nestled between St. Louis and Nashville, Tennessee. As a child, Kristie fell in love with music when she saw the musical “Annie” at the age of 4. Following this delightful experience, she entertained her family and friends daily, using her parents’ hearth as a stage. Throughout her childhood and adolescence, Kristie dreamed of one day becoming a professional recording artist. After high school and countless contests and performances, Kristie moved to Nashville, TN, where she attended Belmont University. During college, Kristie struggled personally, as many young adults do. She knew that singing was the joy of her life, but fear kept her gift hidden from others. Despite her doubts, Kristie''s desire to sing was so strong that she continued to pursue her musical talents through vocal study, touring choirs and the Nashville Opera Chorus. Even still, Kristie had a longing in her heart to step out of her fear and into the musical spotlight. After graduating from Belmont, Kristie realized that she had been a compulsive overeater for 15 years and that her disease had been holding her back in many ways. Kristie embarked upon the journey of a lifetime, a journey of self-acceptance. She spent the next 5 years of her life learning to love herself on the inside and out, exactly as she was. With this newfound acceptance, Kristie began to hone her talents with a strong, brave faith. She applied for and was accepted to New England Conservatory in Boston, Massachusetts. However, after classical training, her heart seemed to be tugging her in a different direction, a path that included involvement in other genres of music including jazz, blues, folk and pop. This desire moved Kristie to write songs of inspiration and self-acceptance. Kristie began to see herself as a self-proclaimed “inspirational songstress”, writing and selecting songs that speak to the hearts of her listeners. Surrounded by a confident view of herself and a positive perspective on the world around her, Kristie began to feel free to explore the rich diversity of music. Kristie also continued her educational pursuits, this time under the tutelage of husband and wife recording team Lori Mecham (piano) and Roger Spencer (bass) at the Nashville Jazz Workshop. At NJW, Kristie studied the songs of jazz greats, Duke Ellington, Jerome Kern, Harry Warren and her personal favorites, Cole Porter, Richard Rogers and Lorenz Hart. Rogers and Hart penned her jazz favorite, “My Funny Valentine”, which she interprets as a song of unconditional love for Self and others. It is through her educational experience at NJW that she co-founded her own jazz singing group, the Jazzabelles. Live performances are the heart of Kristie’s musical spirit. She has developed an inspirational solo performance, which meshes her theatrical and musical talents as she performs songs written and discovered along her journey to attain a healthy self-image. Her dynamic presentation is presented with the goal of inspiring the hearts and minds of audiences by sharing her stories of struggle and triumph. Kristie is married to professional trombone player Roy Agee. They share their lives with three spirited cats, Dizzy, Sweetie and Hunny.
