Details:
Kristin Erickson decided she wanted to be a folk singer when she was eight years old. She came to this realization after receiving a 45 rpm recording of Peter, Paul and Mary singing "Autumn to May" on the back of a cereal box. She doesn''t remember the type of cereal, but the music was a revelation. Kristin was raised on music: church choir, Broadway show tunes, classical, country, and was blessed with piano lessons, and school band with clarinet and oboe. But it was the music of the ‘60''s that really captured her attention and her heart. Starting in fourth grade, Kristin started begging for a guitar, but was stuck with a ukulele for the next two years (she still has that uke). Mel Bay was her main squeeze in those days. Sixth grade brought her first guitar, a Harmony Stella. She couldn''t have been prouder, even when her teacher told her it was really best suited to be a flower pot!

Kristin started performing early. One of her first public appearances was the summer after sixth grade at the Como Park Pavilion in St. Paul, Minnesota. She sang a riveting cover of "To Sir With Love", followed by a set by the popular funk band, Purple Haze. It was one of her more unusual performances.

Kristin left school in her mid-teens to pursue her music full time. She performed for many years, based in Minneapolis, throughout the upper Midwest in coffeehouses, college concerts, bars, television, radio, recording studios, bowling alleys, wherever she could. Most of her performances were solo, just her voice and acoustic guitar, although she did put in a year with Minnesota country legends, The Sky Blue Water Boys. High points from those early days included opening sets for Tom Rush, Wendy Waldman, and Odetta.

Then came a twenty-year break for college, followed by graduate and law school (her attempt at being a "grown-up"), marriage and children. Older and much wiser now (we hope), Kristin is back singing and playing and writing with greater passion than ever. She has come to believe that the greatest gift she can give her children is a life fully lived, and that is what she is aiming for. Her performances these days consist primarily of her original songs, but also include songs of talented friends she has had the pleasure of knowing through the years and a few choice covers from artists like Patti Griffin, Joni Mitchell and Tom Waits. Her music has been described as being "simultaneously lyrical and confident" and her songs have been described as being "ballads with bite" and provocative. One kind listener told her she has a "perfect" voice. Kristin is quite sure this comment was not due to any fee she paid him.

Kristin is based in Salt Lake City. Recent and upcoming performances include Sugarbeats (Salt Lake City), Riverside Cafe (Minneapolis), EP Atelier Coffee House (Minneapolis), Village Blend Coffee House (Minneapolis), Unitarian Coffee House (Salt Lake City), Sun and Moon Café (Salt Lake City), Cafe Diablo (Torrey), Cliff Lodge at Snowbird Resort (Salt Lake City), Intermountain Acoustic Music Local Concert (Salt Lake City), Torrey Music Festival (Torrey, Utah).
