This project is a tribute to my midwestern sensibilities and my warped viewpoint of everyday life. I am an observer by trait, and I have found I tend to view things a little differently then most.
Having worked in the Music Industry in Nashville I learned that the last thing I wanted was to release an album as an artist (they never asked me and I never asked them) for a record label in the traditional way. I saw too many artists shoved into little artist boxes with little artist songs designed to sound like everything else and then set a drift in the big bad world. With words like... "I don''t hear a single", or hearing publishers say, "That song has no commercial potential at all".
I haven''t written this for radio, or a record label, or publisher. These songs were written for all of us who grew up with a pet, loved our daughters, got ticked off at the SUV craze, or just thought about how ironic the humor of life can be. I have written about the things I know.
That''s why the title "The World According to Joe" seemed the only possible title for the project. On this project I haven''t tried to paint a perfect picture of life, but some straightforward thoughts about the way life is. Musically I grew up listening to classic rock/pop so it''s easy to find those influences throughout the album. Lyrically many of the song are just a little off center by choice because that''s how I was made.
My personal favorites are Jesus in the backyard, mr. beaver''s gone, the trash man, not how life should be, and into my eyes.
