Kevin McGee’s music is a natural, intuitive gift. Inspired by everyday life, his music can stir your soul and let your spirit soar. Kevin has a unique style that bridges the gap between the Eagles and Coldplay, with a voice somewhere between Steve Perry and Art Garfunkle.
Born in Athens, GA, this singer-songwriter has a deep passion for life, love family and music. He is a self-taught guitarist/pianist that began playing at the age of eight. Stemming from a musical family, Kevin’s roots provided him a wide range of musical influence and appreciation from church, rock, country, jazz, classical and soul. Along with his proficiency, his versatility has made him a valuable studio musician. It is also the backbone of his signature sound that has gained him a loyal following and fan base.
At the age of 12 Kevin began recording pop-rock cover songs and by 16 was recording demos of his original music. He went on to receive training at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. All the while, he continued to write, record and perform.
After more than a decade of playing clubs, fairs, churches and studio sessions, Kevin was drawn to release some of his original material. In 2003 he self-produced his first album: “me, myself and you,” an autobiographical collection that is compelling and honest. An album full of passion, warmth and intimacy, it was acclaimed for its strength of musical expression and purity of lyrics.
Immediately, Kevin found himself back in the studio once again producing his second album: “Connected,” released in 2005. For this project Kevin wanted to create music that “paints soundscapes.” It features various intro and segue pieces that purposely connect the album’s tracks seamlessly together. “Connected” is especially significant to Kevin since he played all the instruments for the entire album.
Both albums have been embraced in his local market, with several songs getting radio airplay. And as good as the recorded music is, it is Kevin’s live performance that truly showcases his talent and separates him from most singer-songwriters. His ability to connect with his audience comes from sensitive intuition and years of experience – whether surrounded by a band or solo behind a piano or guitar. “I love the excitement and interaction generated with other musicians; on the other hand, I like the spontaneity and vulnerable intimacy of just me and one instrument.” Seeing Kevin play is indeed entertaining, whether he’s playing a laid back original or banging away on a 1950s Little Richard fireball. His audience feels his music and gets involved in the experience.
Kevin is currently working on material for his third album. Meanwhile he continues to divide his time with studio session work and playing various venues. He presently resides in Lexington, SC where he is a devoted husband to his teenage sweetheart and father to their three sons.
