Singer-Songwriter Michael Grajek is making tracks across the country with his debut release, East Coast West Coast.
Grajek began performing at age 12 in church and at school in his home state of Michigan. His powerful and expressive voice complements the premiere collection of songs that he’s co-written with pianist/collaborator Kent Marcum.
The CD-release concert attracted enthusiastic crowds and established a strong fan base for the artist. His sincere and spiritual lyrics perfectly balance his style, sometimes soft and melodic, other times filled with soulful bravado. With songs and a vocal style that seem to bridge the generation gap for music fans, Grajek sings of universal themes such as family, joy, self-introspection and love. His blending of musical genres, combined with a charismatic stage presence is key to his mass appeal. It is a style he has termed “Infusionism.”
East Coast West Coast features a collection of original songs as well as some American standards that showcase Grajek’s impressive talent. $ Can’t Buy You Love is an “up front” urban folk song that speaks to the dichotomy of cash. The title cut, East Coast West Coast, climbs even higher urban ground as it examines the flashy life of a rising star. It has all the makings of a perfect ‘get down’ party song with its chanting chorus and infectious rhythm. Frustrated adds a rock vibe while the guitar plays a counter melody that creates raw insistence.
The CD also features tender, soulful numbers like My God, Momma and So Suddenly, which respectively embrace the power of spirituality, maternal affection, and the pain of unrequited love. Heaven Sent looks at the other side of the romantic spectrum. It is a musical love fest set to a grooving rhythm complete with silky piano licks and R&B harmonies. I Don’t Wanna Play rounds out the original songs, offering a hip-hop vibe and “hooky” chorus.
Equally adept at performing others’ work, Grajek offers very original takes on Billie Holiday’s God Bless The Child, Stevie Wonder’s Superstition, and At Last, made famous by the legendary Etta James. The riffs and embellishments he creates are purely his own.
Grajek is a musical artist who remains true to himself, to his beliefs and his ideals. He attributes it to what he’s learned from family, especially his beloved great-grandmother, who passed away before she was able to see his success unfold. “She taught me to enjoy every moment, enjoy everyone around me,” adds Grajek.
With the rising success of his career and his straightforward, professional attitude, he is clearly on the right path. The expressive power of music is what propels Michael Grajek each and every day.
Michael Grajek has studied under Wendy Bloom in Ann Arbor, MI, and taken Master Classes with Rosemary Butler in Los Angeles. He also contributed vocals to Kent Marcum’s 2004 release “The Journey” and has performed with Marcum at the Renaissance Hotel in Hollywood, the Chatanooga Choo Choo in Tenn., and on the Mitch Albom radio program. The accomplished teen was also a runner-up at the Jackson Idle — a talent competition in Jackson, Mich.
