L.I. Da Beatman
South Carolina’s best kept secret, was born Andre Mitchell White. He was raised in a middle class neighborhood in Florence SC where he grew up listening to all types of music, and as a child he knew music would be his life.
Following in the footsteps of his father, a local DJ, Andre begin showing an interest in music. Soon after that he found a passion for making beats. Armed with a broken down Casio keyboard, that he traded his skateboard to get, Andre developed his sound, and that was the beginning of L.I. Da Beatman.
L.I. worked day and night to perfect his craft. But it was his meeting with Recording Artist Omar Chandler that proved to be instrumental in his development. Omar’s claim to fame is his work on the Rob Base & DJ Eazy Rock’s hip-hop classic “Joy & Pain”. He took L.I. under his wing and began to mentor him.
As L.I. began to show growth as a producer Omar had arranged for L.I. to record at The Future Records Recording Studio in Virginia Beach , the home of The New Jack Swing pioneer Teddy Riley. There L.I. worked with Teddy’s brother Markel Riley of Wrecks-N-Effect, & Pat Riley (Omar’s son). After sitting in a session with Teddy Riley himself, L.I. was encouraged and motivated be the best he could be, by the advice given to him in the Atlanta home studio by the music icon.
Not content with making beats for friends in the neighborhood L.I. began rapping and telling stories related to the things that he had seen and/or experienced. After the murder of his grandfather, and the conviction of his uncle for the murder, L.I. is committed and poised to make a better life for him and his family.
His sound is a combination of dirty south and east coast coming out of the south east. B.O.C Music Presents: L.I. Da Beatman
