Details:
Initially the collaboration between singer-songwriter/guitarist, Nate Clark (also of Audie Darling, Leonard Mynx and On the Stairs) and drummer Chris Brown (formerly of The Doomstown Supersect and Minmae), the band grew to include Greg Cardi on lead guitar, Jed Grubbs on keyboards and Chris Beck on bass. This lineup was locked into place by early April 2007. The band played around Portland from May 2007-September 2008 at such mid-sized indie venues as Rotture, Tonic Lounge and the Alleyway, as well as out-of-town showings in Eugene and Spokane. In 2008, the band embarked on its first recording venture—a 5-song demo in July of 2007 at the now-defunct Trash Factory Studios in Portland. The following year saw the beginning of the band’s work on its first full-length album, Villain, in July 2008. The album was recorded with Antreo Pukay at Tell Tale Studios in Portland. Post-production of Villain continued into the next year and Villain was officially self-released in June 2009.

Les Flaneurs have carved out a musical space much like the space of the city: at times a pulsing knot of rhythms and tones; at others, a stark and ominous backdrop—moments of rushing noise punctuated by solitude and exchange. These songs are about the distances between the buildings, between rent checks and billboards, between real and fictionalized stories. Les Flaneurs also draw from the art-rock impulses of rock pioneers like Talking Heads and Bill Nelson''s Red Noise; the bold rhythms of Captain Beefheart; and the piercing guitar hooks of Television and The Pixies.
