I grew up in a northern English industrial town and like many any other youths I played in a band called The Rimfire Riders that had picked up their name from a cheap western novel and had formed out of boredom living in a small town reeling from recession in the late 70''s early 80''s. No protest songs and expression of concerns about unemployment, civil rights or the environment after all if you are at the bottom of the pile who needs reminding.
Like a million other bands they split up. There was no fall out or any artistic disagreement, just a realisation that time waits for no one and as youth fades and reality smothers any aspirations, you set your sights considerably lower. The band simply faded away.
In terms of adult biography, you give your background to suit your purposes and perhaps little is more. Educated working class, I simply sing my stories in a melancholy drawl. I''m without image and my music is not driven by fashion or any particular ideology or a desire to be part of any sub-culture but simply a bit of self-indulgence and the need to fill a few hours playing a certain kind of music.
The music isn''t stylish or played with any virtuosity, after all competence and all that is what other performers are about.
The album is a kind of lyrical ''Road Movie'' and was a first take recording as music should be spontaneous. It''s dedicated to misfits, dysfunctional and disillusioned huddled masses which basically means you and I. I hope you enjoy.
