Teen Beat Magazine once referred to the Flabby Hoffman Trio as “a refreshing tankard of raw sewage in a sea of malt liquor.” (not really but who reads this far into a description anyway) Having recently been acquitted by the International Criminal Court at the Hague, their inaugural album “Illegally Download This CD” is no longer technically considered to be a crime against humanity (at least until the verdict from the appeal comes in). Now you too can feast your ears on the monumental achievement that this album has in store for you. Word to the wise: have an air sickness bag or two available at all times when listening to the music of Flabby Hoffman.
In all seriousness, Flabby Hoffman is an iconoclastic activist from Chicago who is engaged in a quest to carry out an emotionally driven revolution based on empowering what is good in people and not in the simple destruction of the capitalist military/industrial apparatus. In addition to the creation of this music (where every choice is specifically designed to not only preach to the choir, but perhaps make some new coverts to realize a need within themselves for a more dynamic humanism in our culture and in the world), Flabby is also responsible for producing a weekly hour long TV series (aired locally in Chicago), an ongoing series of touring nightclub shows which he books and hosts (also in Chicago on the local rock club circuit), a monthly online magazine and a variety of other productions and written works. It’s an underground media empire for the disenfranchised.
So whether you enjoy the music of the Flabby Hoffman Trio or not, whether you believe that Ashlee Simpson is the greatest artist of the millennium or not, whether you believe that life in our country is picture perfect and you would rather watch Arena League Football than play an active role in helping to decide your fate rather than just rolling over and accepting the fate someone has assigned you to…one thing’s for sure: this planet will keep spinning with or without us.
