Goodbye Sons is a five-piece band centered in Grassy Cove, TN, a mountain hamlet 45 miles west of Knoxville. The group plays provocative contemporary rock, but with the instrumentation of traditional southern music. They have two self-released CDs of original songs, plus their latest endeavor, a live acoustic recording performed this past Halloween inside the belly of a cave in Grassy Cove. Although not down-the-line alternative-country themselves, Goodbye Sons has been influenced by artists within that genre, such as the Jayhawks and Wilco. Other influences are The Replacements, The Beatles, Guided By Voices, The Band, Camper Van Beethoven, Lyle Lovett, Grant Lee Buffalo, and My Morning Jacket. Goodbye Sons taps into this wide range of influences, utilizing each member’s own unique approach, to give the band its distinct and inimitable style. Goodbye Sons are: Joshua Hall - banjo, accordian, keyboards, harmonica; John Bristow - vocals, guitar, mandolin; Dave Sojka - guitar, mandolin; Christopher Miller - drums, percussion, harmonica; and Greg White - bass guitar, upright, ebowed baritone guitar.
