Glorious Bride, an alternative melodic rock band from Auburn, AL, has seen first hand that this world needs compassion and love - the kind that only God can give. Glorious Bride started out as a worship band about 3 years ago, and recently felt God calling them to go deeper with Him and further musically. This desire has resulted in an alternative rock sound and fresh approach to music that has been jump started by the recent release of their self-titled debut album.
Glorious Bride began at their hometown church in Eclectic, AL, where frontman, pianist and co-songwriter, Jon Myles was the youth minister of the other band members. The combination of guitarist and co-songwriter Roger Eason, drummer Ben Bugna, and bassist J.W. Woodard formed the rest of the band and rounded out their distinctive sound.
The name Glorious Bride comes from the Biblical parallel of the Church being the Bride of Christ and how it is glorious in His sight, no matter what their past consists of. Glorious Bride wants to show through their music that there is hope, even when it seems like you are unworthy of Gods love because of the things you have done. "We are a part of the body of Christ, we''re not going to hide our imperfections, we know that every member of the body struggles and we hope to be an encouragement that Christ is perfecting us (the Church) as His Bride" says Jon Myles.
Glorious Brides self-titled album was recorded with Hot Rod Circuits Andy Jackson in Montgomery, AL and released November 18, 2005. Their album has quickly sold over 200 copies all throughout the southeastern US, and continues to gain momentum as they prepare to head out on "The Exposure Tour" in the summer of 2006. "We didn''t create this record to wear as a mask. The funny thing is, while that is true, the next minute I''m hiding behind my pride." says Eason. "The record has many imperfections, but I think that the tarnishes on our record are very similar to my own Christianity." Then, Eason goes on to say, "Since this record is imperfect then only God can make something out of it. Now, I know that sounds wild. I have to remind myself constantly that everything I have done equals up to nothing. All things good and of worth that I have done will one day pass into oblivion. Every statue in my name will easily crumble. I will be forgotten, gladly!"
The first track on the record, "Naked I Leave," was written by Jon Myles, when he felt conviction that he and the Church hide behind pride. He cries out, "I''ll be Your fool!" in hopes that people will know him for his foolishness. He also feels that if he agrees with God and convinces himself that he is a fool then he cannot wear a cloak of self-righteousness.
"Exposure," the co-written closing track, begins with easy-going lyrics underlying Roger''s feelings of his longing to throw all care for others away. Roger Eason wrote this song out of cold-blooded conviction of his shortcomings as a Christian living in the dreamland, America. He sings, "May I rest just a little longer? I like the comfort of my bed sheets and my apathy." Roger says, "I find myself asking everyday if I can rest just a little longer. But, just a little longer always turns to just a little longer." In the bridge Eason cries out, "Expose, exposure, expose yourself!" because he believes that only God can put a light over apathy.
Glorious Bride''s heart is to follow Christ in the way that He lived. "We don''t tolerate sin, in our lives or in the Church, but we must embrace and love each other as sinners" Myles says. They feel that the imperfectness of their debut album will represent their flaws and victories the same. "The Church is growing still, learning more every day how to be like Christ."
