In any case, with one voice and six strings Glenn Hansen introduces us to a different kind of world - a world of real hope.
Interestingly enough, if you ask Glenn about his musical background he might surprise you. He wasn''t always an acoustic centered singer-songwriter, with a knack for intricate guitar layering and flowing arrangements - but grew up strongly influenced by heavy rock artists such as Michael Schenker, Jimi Hendrix, and Brian May. In fact, during his formative years Glenn rarely picked up an acoustic guitar and never sang other than for an occasional minor background vocal.
It wasn''t until 1998, after a 10 year long hiatus from music during which he pursued a career as a mild mannered System Designer for a major metropolitan utility - that Glenn picked up his guitar and began to play again. With the passage of time, a subconscious infusion of multiple new influences with the old, and increasingly honest reflection upon the purpose of his life and gifts - a very different kind of music began to emanate from Glenn. Very different indeed... Gone were the heavy metal anthems and extended guitar solos of his youth - replaced with passionate songs of life. Painfully honest songs of a life lived - yet with an over-arching message of hope. Songs birthed in solo acoustic guitar and voice - yet nurtured in finely honed electric guitar sensibilities.
In 1999, after overwhelmingly positive response to his solo acoustic performances, Glenn began pre-production planning for his first album. He enlisted the help of his lifelong friend John Gobin on drums and unable to find additional musicians right for the project decided to play all the other instruments himself. "Playing all the other instruments, as well as engineering, producing, mixing, and editing - not to mention recording all the vocals made for quite an experience. All that plus more technical difficulties than I could shake a stick at made for an extremely long production - 4 years." In the end Glenn''s debut album HIM was released on the 9th of April 2003, and met with excellent reviews for its power, passion, and unique intricate layering of electric guitar lines over relatively straight-forward acoustic rock.
