In the beginning, when I met gh cline he was wearing a stetson and high on a pair of wood heel boots. The brim of his hat held back his long blond hair and a denim shirt echoed his stunning blue eyes. He gave me a smile that reflected the soul of a good man. He has that classic western charm. He calls malibu his home, rides horses thru the hills of zuma and lives with a beautiful lady. Not a bad lifestyle, but not an easy road to get there. He''s a gentleman who’s paid some dues.
Imagine a young man of 19, discovering himself in the liberal sixties, with dreams of rock-n-roll and stardom being shattered by the hammer of the vietnam war. Gh was drafted and soon found himself on the ground in the front lines of enemy gun fire; his youthful innocence and acoustic guitar shattered in a rocket attack. For psychological survival, cline reads and rereads the book Siddhartha; infusing eastern philosophy into the western religion he was raised with. In the turmoil soil of Nam, cline discovers and experiments with marijuana and opium and begins writing poetry. These writings are later published in his first book of poems, ''consider the source'', and receive National attention.
When he returns home, rock-n-roll is the voice of his generation but cline is too emotional to ride the wave and begins the sabbatical period of his life. Some wounds set deep and take long to heal. In his humble voice he reminds me that he’s not the only one who has suffered a war, “there are a lot of beautiful people who could use some light" he says.
Gh continued writing songs and poetry and though the dream of sharing his music has always been alive, he was not interested in the business of the art. It was only those closest to him who knew of his great talent. Years had past and memories turn to melodies, Cline''s songwriting had developed; reflecting on the questions of self realization and the meaning of his life. He touches the listener at the heart level, his words ask us to feel and be more aware of the human tenderness.
Listening to his songs I get the feeling I’ve just put the needle on an old record, his style is classic and romantic. You can hear the 60''s influence, familiar, warm, and at the same time modern and of the social current. His music is relevant today and will probably be more so tomorrow. This is gh clines first recording and our chance to hear the musical voice of a spiritual man''.
