Gerina (Ger een a). n. A one-name musical wonder who is poised to set the world on its ear.

And you can expect it to be quite a revolution. shaking up the music scene right down to its axis. The young singer/songwriter, whose life experiences have exposed her to many musical genres while becoming fluent in Spanish, Italian and English, is ready to define a new genre and turn the musical tide with her “no boundaries” style and flair. In June 2006, Gerina released her first album, “Gerina,” on the Aim High Records label, featuring songs written by her that demonstrate the diverse influences that make her such a distinctive talent. Defying classification, Gerina’s music is a unique combination of pop/rock with a hint of country and some Latin grooves, taking the listener through a journey of emotions in both English and Spanish.

Gerina’s name is already known in some of the most prestigious inner musical circles. Although only in her 20’s, she is an accomplished songwriter who was honored at the 2005 BMI Latin Awards for those skills, In 2002, Gerina co-wrote “Closer To You,” with noted songwriter/producer Steve Morales. Latin star Thalia released the song on her 2002 self-titled album, then released the Spanish version, “Cerca De Ti,” in 2004. The latter sailed to #1 on the Billboard Latin charts and has remained Thalia’s second biggest selling single.

Born Gerina Di Marco to an Italian father and Venezuelan mother, she grew up in Margarita Island, Venezuela, and appeared on “In Search of a Young Star,” that country’s version of “Star Search,” when she was 9. She remained the champion on the show for five consecutive weeks and went on to appear in a variety of television commercials for such companies as Colgate, Samba Candy, Toddy Chocolate and Cotton Candy Clothing, which aired in Venezuela and the United States.

With her family’s blessing, when she was 16, Gerina left home to pursue her musical dreams in the United States. While living with relatives in Clearwater, Florida, she attended St. Petersburg Junior College and then Miami Dade Community College, where she received degrees in International Business Administration and Music Business, respectively. After graduation, she began working with such musical greats as Steve Morales, Jon Secada, Marty Cintron, Guy Roache and others.

In 2003, Gerina moved to Las Vegas to sharpen her live performance skills. After a successful stint as the lead singer for the house band in the Fontana Room at the Bellagio, she left to record her CD and pursue her solo ambitions. While with the Vegas band, she met co-producer Chris DeStefano who has engineered hits for many major labels, including Jive Records, BMG and Sony.

Gerina is now ready for Phase 2 of her career and is preparing to tour the U.S. with her new CD. It promises to put a whole new spin on the recording world as we know it.
