Hook-drenched songwriting, tight dueling vocal harmonies, and a fierce double guitar attack are the hallmarks of the sound of the indie-pop quartet known as THE BRUISES.

In 2001 guitarist Jenni Black, formerly of Illinois indie-rock touring juggernaut The Velouria Beat, met up with acoustic singer-songwriter Aja Blue. Coming from similar Midwestern backgrounds, the two hit it off right away and began to notice that their sounds perfectly complemented each other to form something that was more than the sum of its parts -- THE BRUISES!

In 2003 THE BRUISES recorded the well-received acoustic LP “Last Summer” and toured relentlessly through the Midwest, garnering new fans and positive reviews across the country, as well as solidifying their songwriting.

In 2005 THE BRUISES Aja and Jen tranquilized their cats, packed up the minivan and trekked the 40+ hour trip to relocate to Los Angeles, where they recorded the EP “Ladies and Gentlemen…THE BRUISES”, which featured a new hard-driven electric sound.

THE BRUISES played several shows in the L.A. area, building a loyal following and mailing list through performances and their presence on https://www.tradebit.com, before deciding to head up to San Francisco in late 2005 to seek their fortune in the Bay Area’s fertile music scene. Once in San Francisco, they reunited with original Bruises drummer Derrick Hostetter (of San Francisco post-hardcore band Cast of Thousands) and met Jory Cunningham (formerly of Oakland funk favorites Brown Baggin) to fill out the lineup on bass and keys.

2006 has already brought a wealth of new material, some of which has been recorded for a new EP release scheduled for early Spring 2006. THE BRUISES'' “Beautiful Mess” was named “Download of the Week” by the San Francisco Chronicle’s “Pop Beat” (03/12/06) and they have been packing San Francisco clubs with beautiful people. THE BRUISES'' infectious sound is sure to leave its mark on rock in 2006!
