Details:
In June of 1972 four young brothers were deeply inspired by Motown phenomenon The Jackson Five. The Brodie brothers begin performing at local talent contest in Durham, NC--and winning! Sidney, Robert, Wayne, Michael, and later on, sisters, Gail and Donna joined, forming Brodie''s Gang. The group gained local and regional popularity throughout the mid 70s into the 80s. The venues included festivals, clubs, and company parties.
As time went on and the young teens began to grow into young adults and realized that there was more to life than a career in music, group members began to marry off and move on from the dedication required of a music career.
In an effort to salvage in part the dream of a family oriented singing group, founding member, Sidney, sought to become a sideman with another local bandleader, Johnny White, who had only a year earlier offered Sidney a position in his band. Sidney turned the offer down vowing to get his family group back together. One year later Johnny didn''t have a vacancy for a guitarist/vocalist, but informed Sidney that brothers John and Doug Clark of the Hot Nuts were looking for a guitarist. Johnny White, of Johnny White and the Elite band, passed on Doug Clark''s phone number to Sidney Brodie forming the infamous Brodie/Clark Brothership/Hot Nuts connection, which has bred yet a new generation of phunksters. More on that later.
By the time Brodie''s Gang was fully established the young performers who started out as the Super Mastics, singing and dancing to the music of the Jackson Five and the Sylvers had transformed into the group known today as The Brothership, featuring Brodie brothers, Sidney and Robert, the two siblings who realized the dream and stayed focused on the mark through the good and the bad times. Two divorces and four wives later, Robert and Sidney remain the team of phunksters no duo dare intimidate.
So please enjoy this very first recording by the group once known as Brodie''s Gang, now The Brothership.
