Box Camera is fronted by songwriter Mike Lyons who has been playing in Cork bands on and off since 1992, with fuzz pop outfit Treehouse, Hooky and as a solo performer. Hooky was selected from the IMRO Showcase series in 1999 to play at a London Showcase for new talent and at that time, Ian O Doherty of The Star, described them as "the best unsigned band in the country". Hooky played and toured Ireland extensively and recorded two albums together. Recently Mike teamed up with producer/musician Simon Widdowson who before moving to Cork in 2005 toured the US releasing a number of solo albums before opening Are You Listening? Recording Studio and Artists'' Collective in Portland, Oregon where he produced many successful albums for artists such as Decemberists, Hindi Guns and Man of the Year. Most recently he has produced new recordings for Irish acts Arm the Elderly, The Driven and The Red Herrings. The Box Camera album was engineered and produced by Simon at The Cottage Studio in Cork. The Box Camera live band includes John John Conway (Wiggle, Hooky), Graham Lynch (The Lynch Mob, The Outside) and Jason O Driscoll (Prester John, The Orange Fettishes). Tony Crotty (The Girls of Summer) plays drums on the album which also features guest appearances from Bertrand Galen (Interference, The Swell Season) and Colm Rooney and Toby Eaton of Wiggle. Box Camera make emotional music with high production values, lush arrangements and a melody driven ethos which will attract fans of classic sounds in a modern context.
