Anyone who has spent time in Miami knows you’ve got to speak at least two languages to get by, usually within one conversation. That’s why my music became “Bilingual Funky Tropicale” in this town. But let me back up. After playing with the Orquesta Nueva Era at the “End of the Universe Ball” in Seattle, I went directly to the airport and got on one of those cheap Y2K flights. Six years later this album culminates some of my key experiences in that time. Dominicans, Cubans, Jamaicans, Brazilians, Argentines, Barbadians, Venezuelans, Nicaraguans, Puerto Ricans, Brooklynites and San Francisco-philes have all been integral to the special mix on this record.
